With the release of App version 10.0.0 we are now allowing you to determine your own stride length, which we will use to calculate distance if you post steps (with the exception of Apple Health who already send us the distance).
Here are some things you should know:
Stride length is the length of 2 steps, NOT 1 step.
The stride length you set is based on your walking stride length but will apply to all steps we receive
Any steps you post after updating the stride length will have distance calculated based on the new stride length but steps already posted prior will not be updated.
The default stride length which we have always used has been set for everyone as a starting point so if you haven't set your stride length before you will see that which is 160.93cm
There is a min and max stride length (90cm, 200cm), this is to prevent accidentally adding a huge stride length.
If your distance unit is miles stride length is in inches, if km, stride length is in cm. You can't mix and match imperial and metric.
In Google Health you can also manually set your stride length, so depending on what you want to match to the other, you can choose where you adjust, or do both.
How to set your stride length
Go to the My Profile screen.
Tap on the cog in the top right corner.
Tap on Account details.
Tap on Edit Personal preferences
Choose if you want to enter it manually or based on height
Enter your Stride length or Height (depending on your previous selection)
Tap on Save
How about running stride length?
We only have 1 saved stride length, so if you are doing an activity where you are going to be making significantly longer strides (like a run) and you are only recording steps you will see a lower distance. The best way around this is to record the run as a work out or ConquerorDistance.
Conqueror Distance has also had an upgrade, so if you are recording ConquerorSteps and then you activate a ConquerorDistance you'll be given the option to pause steps to ensure your steps are not double counted if you are going for a run.
