Many customers have requested longer challenges, however, we know that shorter challenges are more accessible for most of our user base, while other users find our longer challenges interesting but not achievable.

Therefore, we have added 2 new features:

Tailwind:

  • The ability to make our longer challenges require less distance to complete.

  • Each of these will have 4 options to shorten the distance required, which must be selected during the joining process (and cannot be changed).

  • Example: If you adjusted Route 66 from 2280 mile to 570 miles, when you post 10 miles you will progress 40 miles along the route.

Headwind:

  • The ability to make our shorter challenges require more distance to complete.

  • Each of these will have 4 options to lengthen the distance required, which must be selected during the joining process (and cannot be changed).

  • Example: If you adjusted Bangkok from 30 mile to 90 miles, when you post 6 miles, you will progress 2 miles along the route.

Important Info:

  • The medal that you will receive will always be the original distance, the headwind / tailwind will not change the medal.

  • The amount of digital content you receive will remain the same and unlock in accordance with the selected Headwind/Tailwind.

  • All challenges can be completed in their original length as well.

  • All challenges (except those with dual distance) have this feature available as of February 26th, 2025.

  • Members of teams will be able to compete at varying headwind/tailwind values, their app will show them advancing along the polyline according to their multiplier value.

How to select a Headwind / Tailwind on a Challenge:

  1. Open The Conqueror Challenges App.

  2. In the menu bar, select join a challenge (you will need a join code)

  3. Enter a join code that allows you to join one of our challenges.

  4. Under the Add a headwind or tailwind heading select: Yes, adjust distance

  5. Use the plus sign or minus sign to change the move through the available distances.

  6. IMPORTANT: which ever distance you select here is final, and cannot be adjusted later.

  7. Scroll to the bottom (selecting the other options as you go) and tap Join challenge.

How does it work?

HW/TW adjusts your travel speed along the original mapped distance by modifying your posted distances relative to your chosen HW/TW setting.

  • Tailwind (TW): If you select a shorter distance than the original, you'll move faster along the map. This makes longer challenges more accessible to a wider range of users.

  • Headwind (HW): If you select a longer distance than the original, you'll progress more slowly. This is ideal for users covering greater distances, such as cyclists, who want to extend the duration of shorter challenges.

The Map and Route Stay the Same

Your selected HW/TW distance determines how quickly you progress along the map, but the route itself remains unchanged.

For example, if the Lake District route is 100 miles:

  • Tailwind (TW): 50-mile setting: Your posted distances propel you further. If you log 5 miles, you’ll move 10 miles along the map.

  • Headwind (HW): 200-mile setting: Progress is slower. If you log 5 miles, you’ll travel 2.5 miles along the map.

  • Stronger Headwind: 1000-mile setting: Movement is significantly reduced. If you log 5 miles, you’ll only travel 0.5 miles along the map.

This system allows you to tailor the challenge to your pace, whether you want to complete it faster or make it last longer.

Unlocking Challenge Content

Challenge content unlocks at the original distances on the map, but the amount you need to log to reach each milestone varies based on your HW/TW setting.

For example, if the Lake District postcard unlocks at 3 miles:

  • 50-mile setting (Tailwind): Post 1.5 miles to reach it.

  • 200-mile setting (Headwind): Post 6 miles to reach it.

  • 1000-mile setting (Stronger Headwind): Post 60 miles to reach it.

Your HW/TW selection customizes your challenge experience, allowing you to progress at a pace that suits your goals.
